In barnacle, opening through which thoracic appendages (cirri) are protruded. In stalked barnacle, bordered on each side by scutum and tergum; bordered in unstalked barnacle by operculum (paired scuta and terga in symmetrical forms, single scutum and tergum in asymmetrical forms). (See also occludent margin). (Syn. orifice) [Stachowitsch, 1992].
