In sessile cirripeds (Verrucomorpha, Balanomorpha), rigid articulate skeletal element (valve) forming part of shell wall. (Syn. mural plate) [Moore and McCormick, 1969].

(Subclass Cirripedia):
In unstalked barnacle, one of up to eight overlapping/articulating plates forming wall which encircles body. May include form anterior to posterior end: single rostrum, paired rostrolaterals, laterals, carinolaterals, single carina, and in asymmetrical form, also fixed scutum and fixed tergum. (Syn. compartmental plate, mural plate) [Stachowitsch, 1992].
