soft crab
A crab that has just shed its shell and has not yet hardened its new shell; may be any species of crab, but the commercial soft-shelled crab of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts is the blue crab, Callinectes sapidus. (Syn. soft-shelled crab) [Bliss, 1982].
